Elected Leaders and Norfolk Teacher Call on Winsome Earle-Sears to Stand Up for Virginia Students

NORFOLK, VIRGINIA – Today, ahead of Winsome Earle-Sears’ commencement address at Regent University, elected officials and a Norfolk Public Schools teacher called on Sears to stand up to the chaos that threatens opportunities for Virginia students.

Winsome Earle-Sears supports an extreme agenda that would strip funding from Virginia public schools and create chaos and uncertainty for Virginia students and their families.

“As a member of the House of Delegates and a former educator, I know that education is not just policy—it is the pathway to equity, opportunity, and stability for our communities,” said Delegate Bonita Anthony. “At a time when our students need champions, not saboteurs, Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears has supported policies that strip resources from our public schools and undermine the very institutions families rely on. Virginians deserve leaders who will invest in our children and defend public education—not dismantle it.”

“Winsome Earle-Sears is more interested in cutting funding schools need to serve their students than she is in fighting for Virginia. She has yet to stand up for Virginia, but is trying to be Governor,” said Virginia Delegate Alex Askew.

“If you’re running to lead this Commonwealth, you should be focused on what’s best for our students — and it’s clear that Winsome Earle-Sears isn’t. We need leaders who will stand up against attacks on our students’ ability to thrive,” said Norfolk Public Schools teacher Tyrone Weems.
