From the Abigail Spanberger for Governor campaign – note that she’s talking about the ECONOMY, as she frequently does, in stark contrast to Winsome Earle-Sears’ campaign, which is 100% focused on divisive, “culture war” stuff that won’t improve the lives of Virginians.

Spanberger: “As the Next Governor of Virginia, I Will Be Laser-Focused on Bringing Costs Down for Families”

RICHMOND, Va. — Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger — who has made lowering costs her top priority as the next Governor of Virginia — today released the following statement responding to new data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showing Virginians are continuing to have to pay more for the things they need.

“This data confirms the very real concerns I’m hearing from families across the Commonwealth — Virginians are feeling squeezed by high prices. As parents have to spend more of their money to take care of their kids and begin budgeting for the holidays, economists and business leaders are worried about the long-term future of Virginia’s economy.

“Virginians deserve a Governor who will put aside political differences and work to make life more affordable, protect Virginia jobs, and increase economic opportunity in every Virginia community. As the next Governor of Virginia, I will be laser-focused on bringing costs down for families. Come January, my administration will be ready to take decisive action to deliver relief and make sure every Virginia family can afford to build a life here in the Commonwealth.”

The consumer price index (CPI) this month posted the biggest seasonally adjusted increase since January, putting the annual inflation rate at 2.9 percent. This report comes as the number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits is the highest it has been in nearly four years — and as Virginia’s unemployment rate has risen for seven consecutive months.

BACKGROUND

Earlier this year — Spanberger rolled out her plan to lower costs for Virginians across the board — her Affordable Virginia Plan, which focuses on lowering energy, healthcare, and housing costs for Virginia families.

Spanberger has also announced her Growing Virginia Plan and Strengthening Virginia Schools Plan — showing that her administration will have a plan on day one to address challenges facing Virginia’s economy and schools.

As a Member of Congress, Spanberger built a record of working with both Democrats and Republicans to deliver results for Virginians — and was named the most bipartisan Member of Congress from Virginia.
