Well said by the Fairfax County Democratic Committee (see their statement, below). The fact is, this election will determine whether Virginia has an Attorney General who will: a) be a partisan Republican who will agree to anything/everything Trump wants; b) refuse to stand up to Trump’s illegality and damage to Virginia; c) conduct his duties as a right-wing partisan hack, as opposed to being a fair, impartial, and respectful arbiter and guardian of the law and the constitution. If that’s what you want, then by all means vote to reelect Jason Miyares. If, on the other hand, you’re sane, sensible and do NOT want four more years of this lunacy, then most definitely do NOT vote to reelect Miyares!
Jason Miyares Has Been Dangerous. Virginia Deserves Better.
This November, Virginia will have a choice about what kind of future we want for our Commonwealth. We have the opportunity to send a clear message to the nation and rebuke the authoritarian tactics of the Trump administration.
Over the past year, Donald Trump has made clear what his second term will look like. He’s used the federal government to indict his political opponents, sent troops into American cities, and made life more expensive for working families through tariffs and cuts to healthcare subsidies. Here in Northern Virginia, we’ve felt it personally as our neighbors and friends have lost their jobs from the DOGE firings. We have witnessed the racial profiling and brutalization of our friends and neighbors at the hands of ICE thugs. The reality we live in right now is that we need all hands on deck over the next four years to fight Trump’s authoritarian crackdown and protect our American freedoms. That is why this Attorney General election matters.
Jason Miyares hasn’t just been bad. He’s been dangerous.
Miyares has refused to prosecute police officers involved in brutality cases. He’s used the power of his office to attempt restricting women’s access to abortion across the board. He’s backed Trump’s actions to send the National Guard into American cities. And he’s shown over and over that his loyalty lies with Trump’s agenda, not with Virginians. If he stays in office, Miyares will block progress from a Democratic governor and legislature, grind state government to a halt, and keep delivering for Trump instead of for Virginia. Our commonwealth deserves better than that.
We deserve an Attorney General who will defend our reproductive rights, protect our rights, and work with Governor Abigail Spanberger to lower costs and make life more affordable for working families. We need someone who will not play political games to get attention from D.C.
Jay Jones isn’t perfect. None of us is. But this race isn’t about personal perfection. This race is about what direction we want Virginia to move in. It’s about whether we give Trump’s allies another term of control, or whether we take our Commonwealth back and keep it on the path of progress.
We need an Attorney General who will stand up for Virginians, not one who stands in our way. That is why we need to elect Jay Jones on November 4th.
