See below for video of Rep. Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA10) last night on MSNOW, where he said:
“Yeah, what [Trump]’s accomplished is given Iran even more leverage over the region and over the war. Remember, the Strait of Hormuz was not under their control in any sort of way before this war started. And the reason I believe they were trying to build nuclear weapons in the first place was because they wanted to exert leverage and control. And now that they found other levers to do that, and so now we are in a worse position than when this war began. And the president has not only not fixed his mess, he continues to make it worse. And Iran doesn’t trust any of his threats. They’re just laughing!
…[Question: “Does the political pressure of the midterms on Trump give Iran leverage in these negotiations?”] Oh, absolutely. I mean, the president won in 2024 in part by reinventing himself. He’s said over and over again that he’s going to get out of this war quickly, that it’s right around the corner, the end is right around the corner.. So I believe he feels that pressure, but he also feels the pressure pressure, as you were mentioning earlier, of scrapping the nuclear deal that was struck under Obama, because it gave money to Iran. Yet, to get out of this war and to have any sort of long-term solution involves lifting sanctions or involves letting Iran sell its oil without any sanctions on them. And so we’re in a place now where Trump will basically have to get a worse deal than we had 10 years ago in order to get out of this war and get into a better political situation.”
Brilliant, huh?
