Former Virginia-Republican-candidate-turned-Independent Matt Walton nails it:
“Virginia has 3 Republican members on the House Armed Services Committee,
It’s Tragic they let Trump do this to our military. Vote them out.”
So yeah, for the record, here’s the roster of House Armed Service Committee members, including Reps. Rob Wittman (R-VA01), Jen Kiggans (R-VA02), John McGuire (R-VA05) and Eugene Vindman (D-VA07) from Virginia. I checked all of these members’ Twitter and Facebook feeds, also did a Google search, and all I found was the following BULLS*** from the godawful Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA02):
“The media has got to stop spreading democrat lies and disinformation. It hurts our military readiness, hurts our warfighters, and hurts our military families. I am proud of our Navy sailors and all our men and women in uniform and stand with them and support them every single day. God bless our great U.S. Navy…!!”
So what’s actually happening? There are a myriad of stories on this, including:
- Sailors on carriers like the USS Abraham Lincoln feel the strain as Navy deployments stretch longer (“A crew member serving on the Lincoln described morale on the ship as very low and said they had heard repeatedly about suicidal ideation by fellow crew members. And there were regular strains on essential amenities — toilets and water fountains around the ship frequently closed and hot water often unavailable, the crew member said.”)
- Multiple USS Abraham Lincoln sailors have tried to go overboard amid extended deployment, families say
- USS Abraham Lincoln families press Navy leaders over sailors’ mental health (“Interviews with active-duty sailors and family members, along with dozens of public social media comments and posts by crew members, describe sailors struggling with exhaustion and declining morale, including reports of suicidal thoughts and at least one instance where a crew member was prevented from jumping overboard.”)
- Trump Dismisses Reports About Dire Conditions Aboard U.S. Aircraft Carrier
So no, there are not “lies and disinformation” as the pathetic Jen Kiggans claims (side note: should be “Democratic”, not “democrat” as an adjective); what Kiggans is doing here is the classic “shooting the messenger,” and it’s the polar opposite of leadership. Disgraceful. As for Rob Wittman, he’s a real piece of work, as he’s actually Vice Chair of the House Armed Service Committee *and* on the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, plus he has a ton of military members and veterans in his district, yet he has *nothing to say* on this horrendous situation with the USS Lincoln??? As for insurrectionist/far-right-extremist Rep. John McGuire (R-VA05), he’s a former Navy SEAL, yet apparently doesn’t give a f*** about how poorly the men and women of the Navy during Trump’s seemingly endless (and pointless, and failed) war-of-choice in Iran are being treated.
Bottom line: as Matt Walton says, “It’s Tragic they let Trump do this to our military. Vote them out.” The good news is we can start doing just that, in just 34 days, when early voting starts on September 18. Let’s do it!
