Video: After Jared Kushner-Hakeem Jeffries Meeting, Rep. James Walkinshaw (D-VA11) Pledges, “I promise you, we will not use kid gloves on Jared Kushner or anyone else involved in the corruption”

Yesterday, on MSNOW, Rep. James Walkinshaw (D-VA11) was asked about House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ meeting with Jared Kushner, whether Trump will be impeached if Democrats win back the House, what the top priorities for the House Oversight Committee will be, etc. See below for video and highlights.

• On a possible Trump impeachment: “In my view, it is inevitable. The scope and scale of the corruption and abuse, the illegal war in Iran are such that I don’t know that it can Be avoided. It is not a top or first week or first month or first quarter priority. It’s not something that Democrats are spending a lot of time thinking about right now…because a on day one, if we’re given the opportunity to lead in Congress, we’ve got to put bills on the president’s desk that bring down the cost of living for the American people. That will be the first focus. And all those investigations that you mentioned will have to precede any serious conversation about impeachment. So we’ve got to lay all that out for the American people. We’ve got to dig up whatever else needs to be dug up about this corruption and this abuse of power that’s taking place. And if that leads to an impeachment process to further explicate that for the American people, then that’s what will happen.”
• On the Hakeem Jeffries-Jared Kushner meeting: “I think undoubtedly Jared Kushner will be a subject of Democratic investigations. You know, while he is making huge investment deals in the Middle East, he is the president’s Middle East envoy –  blatant conflict of interest. I think that meeting highlights the situation that we’re in, where you might be investigating somebody one day, and then if the Trump administration is willing to work with us to bring down costs for the American people, we can partner with them to do that. The reality, I think, is Donald Trump is not interested in that. We saw that with the Road to Housing Act that will bring down housing costs. He couldn’t even bring himself to pick up the pen to sign the bill. That’s how little he cared. So I’m not optimistic that President Trump and his administration will want to do that. If they want to do that, great, let’s do it.” [Q: “So you don’t take the meeting as a sign that Democrats are going to use kid gloves on Jared Kushner?”] “Absolutely not. I promise you, we will not use kid gloves on Jared Kushner or anyone else involved in the corruption.”
• On the first investigations he’d like to see by a Democratic-controlled House Oversight Committee: “I am particularly interested in DOGE. Obviously, the impact on my constituents in Northern Virginia has been severe. But I think the impact on the american people has been severe. And this doesn’t get a lot of attention. DOGE accessed the Social Security database with everyone’s Social Security number and personal information. They removed it from a secure location and transferred it to a political organization. This this is an outrageous scandal that hurts every American, puts every American at risk. And there’s a litany of scandals like that from DOGE. We learned recently that they completely lied about the purported savings. So for me personally, DOGE is at the very top of the list.”
