Rep. Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA10) Calls Trump’s FBI/DOJ Monitoring His Phone Conversations with VA President Pro Tempore Louise Lucas “Deeply Concerning”

Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA10) on the latest outrage by Trump’s “own person law firm,” aka the FBI and DOJ – their monitoring of Subramanyam’s “phone conversations with State Senator and President Pro Tempore Louise Lucas…as part of their investigation into Senator Lucas.” As you may recall, back in May, after the 10D-1R map was passed by Virginia voters, Trump’s FBI raided the offices of Sen. Lucas, who of course was a leader in pushing for the 10D-1R map.  Also note that, since May, we haven’t seen any evidence, search warrants, etc, etc. So WTF is going on here?!? Also, how can the FBI and DOJ possibly justify listening in on conversations between Lucas and members of Congress, journalists, etc???  Just outrageous and deeply unAmerican.

“The FBI started investigating Senator Louise Lucas because she was one of the spearheading people of the referendum vote that we had in April, the the redistricting referendum in Virginia. And so leading up to that, they started wiretapping all of her conversations. And I have no trust in the FBI or the DOJ right now. They are politically motivated and they say that they work for the president, right? And so they’re wiretapping her conversations. And so when I called her the few times she and I talked, they were listening in on those conversations. So I have a lot of questions about why they were doing that and was it politically motivated given the timing the few months before a referendum election on redistricting that Republicans didn’t want. They have a lot of questions to answer.”

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) released the following statement:

“The FBI and DOJ recently informed me that my phone conversations with State Senator and President Pro Tempore Louise Lucas were being monitored as part of their investigation into Senator Lucas. This is deeply concerning.

Trump’s DOJ has become his own personal law firm, with his former personal attorney carrying out vendettas on Trump’s political enemies. They have politically investigated multiple states’ Attorneys General and the former FBI director. Now they admit they have surveilled conversations by a sitting Democratic Congressman.

The timing of this wiretap and investigation is extremely suspicious. The tap took place between March and May, which was at the peak of campaigning for the redistricting referendum in Virginia. This was also while the Oversight Committee was calling on Pam Bondi to testify on the Epstein investigation. This should concern anyone who believes in a real Department of Justice that serves the American people and not a singular president.

If this surveillance was done to scare us and to get Democrats to stop pushing back against Trump’s political overreach, they are mistaken. We will not back down. We will continue our investigations into this President and his corrupt administration.”
