Terry for Virginia Releases New Digital Ad and Radio Ad Highlighting the Impact of Toni Morrison Amid Glenn Youngkin’s Book Ban

“Our Voice Matters” Digital Ad Is Narrated By “Beloved” Actor Danny Glover

MCLEAN, VA – Terry for Virginia today released a new digital ad “Our Voice Matters” and a new radio ad “Legacy,” both highlighting the impacts of Toni Morrison – the target of Glenn Youngkin’s recent attacks. The digital ad is narrated by Danny Glover, who starred in the film Beloved. Glover calls out Youngkin’s closing message of racist dog whistles, from his embrace of book banning to his silencing of Black voices.

President Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey praise Toni Morrison’s award-winning prose and her powerful impact on the nation, further emphasizing Glenn Youngkin’s bigotry in his attacks on Morrison. Glenn Youngkin’s entire campaign has been one racist dog whistle after another, and in less than a week Virginians will come together to reject that message, electing Terry McAuliffe to keep the Commonwealth moving forward.

“OUR VOICE MATTERS” TRANSCRIPT

President Barack Obama: Toni Morrison’s prose brings us that kind of moral and emotional intensity that few writers ever attempt.

Oprah Winfrey: She was a master of words and had a profound impact on me.

Toni Morrison: It’s your sacred place, and you own it.

Danny Glover: Toni Morrison, she is one of our greats. The first African-American woman to win the Nobel Prize. But now in the final days of this campaign, Glenn Youngkin supports banning books by Toni Morrison and other Black authors in Virginia classrooms.

Danny Glover: We know what this is. Just like Donald Trump, Glenn is trying to silence our voices, to silence the truth.

Danny Glover: But our voice matters. And together, our collective power will keep this great Commonwealth moving forward. Make your plan to vote.

Oprah Winfrey: She was a master of words and had a profound impact on me.

President Barack Obama: Toni Morrison’s prose brings us that kind of moral and emotional intensity that few writers ever attempt.

Voiceover: But now, in the final days of the Virginia governor’s race, Glenn Youngkin is trying to rev up his Trump base by running ads that support the banning of Toni Morrison’s books in Virginia schools. That’s right, banning Toni Morrison’s books.

Voiceover: It’s not just that Glenn Youngkin is insulting the legacy of Toni Morrison. What should scare us most is that, like Donald Trump, Glenn Youngkin is trying to silence our voices to silence the truth.

Voiceover: Our voices matter. Make sure you vote.
