Although elections for Prince William County Supervisor positions are not scheduled to take place until 2015, there may soon be a vacancy in the Brentsville Magisterial District.  Supervisor Wally Covington III (R) could be elected to the 31st General District Court if the General Assembly passes a bill currently proposing an expansion of the Court by one judge this session.  If that happens, there will be a special election this year.

Don Shaw, a Democrat from Gainesville, VA, has declared his intent to run to fill the seat.  He has been an active member of the Democratic Party in Prince William County for the past several years.  Don spent a 20-year career in the military that saw service in both the Army and Air Force and served as a senior manager in the federal civil service for almost eight years before entering the private sector.

Don holds a Master of Public Administration from Troy University and a Master of Science in Information Management from Syracuse University.  His post-graduate Studies are in the field of public policy at George Mason University.

Don and his family first moved to Prince William County in 1997 when the Army assigned him to the National Capital Region.  They returned to Prince William County in 2004 and are proud to call Gainesville their home.  Don’s wife, Joyce, is a Senior Executive in the Department of Energy.  Their three children all either graduated from or attend Prince William County Schools.

Don is very active in his community.  He is the PTSA Vice President of Ways & Means at Patriot High School, is a member of the Ruritans, the Prince William Conservation Alliance, and an American Legion Life Member.  He and his wife support numerous causes including the Avon Foundation, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Project Purple, Special Olympics Virginia, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the March of Dimes, and the Wounded Warrior Project.

Over the course of his career, Don has worked hard to improve every organization he has been fortunate to have been a part of.  He is passionate about good government and good governance.  He believes we must demand elected officials who are willing to stand up for their constituents, not special interests, and we must hold them accountable.

Further information about Don’s campaign can be found on his website at http://www.shawforbrentsville….  He is also on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/Shawfo… and Twitter: @Shaw4Bville.  This will be a challenging race as Don is the first Democratic candidate for this seat since 2003.  With your support, however, we know he can win!
