Former Virginia Democratic Lt. Governor candidate and former/long-time federal prosecutor Gene Rossi nails it re: “ former Trump US Attorney/now DOJ Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report on @JoeBiden,” which used language that many people find “superfluous,” “partisan,” etc.:
“It was not necessary, it was gratuitous. I worked for the Dept. of Justice for almost 30 years. And when you make a decision not to charge somebody, you say ‘we’re not charging somebody, the evidence is not there’, and you sit down and shut up. Now he did have a duty to write a report, but he didn’t have a duty to write a report with gratuitous information about the ‘elderly’ and the ‘aged’. And I do feel that the comment about the President not remember when his son passed away, that was a classic cheap shot, completely unnecessary…This reminds me of 1984; in the fall, there were concerns about the age and acuity of President Reagan. So I predict that two debates or three debates between…Trump…and Biden, they will decide the election…[The Special Counsel] got it right. Prosecutor Hur is honest, he’s got integrity, I just think he got a little too excited in the words he used. But this case has zero, ZERO jury appeal and ZERO evidentiary value…He admits in the report that the evidence is relatively, and it is…This case would never even be opened if it weren’t the president of the United States being investigated.”
