MIKE CLANCY, A HERITAGE FOUNDATION ALUMNI, FUNDED PROJECT 2025
The Heritage Foundation’s 900-page policy blueprint, Project 2025, would decimate Northern Virginia’s economy
Ashburn, VA – Mike Clancy has attempted to hide and erase his involvement with the Heritage Foundation ever since becoming the Republican nominee for Virginia’s 10th congressional district. The Heritage Foundation infamously wrote ‘Project 2025,’ a detailed policy blueprint for firing federal civil servants, abolishing the Department of Education, and slashing benefits for seniors and veterans, which would decimate Northern Virginia’s economy.
In a September WJLA-TV congressional debate, Clancy began to address the issue by saying, “I never heard of Project 2025. Democrats started to use it for fear mongering in these elections.”
But Clancy has proudly broadcast his membership with the Heritage Foundation in his biography on NewsMax, where he is a conservative commentator.
Later in the WJLA debate, Clancy revealed his deep familiarity with Project 2025, saying, “It’s a 900-page policy document…The Heritage Foundation has been working, writing these types of policy papers since the 1980s.”
Clancy then divulged a kernel of truth and conceded yes, “I made a donation to Heritage Foundation,” and helped to fund Project 2025.
While being interviewed by WUSA9 this week, Clancy was asked directly if he was a member of the Heritage Foundation. Clancy finally, unequivocally confessed that he was a Heritage Foundation member. Clancy’s responses included many admissions:
- “Yeah so that was uh, you know, historically, yes.”
- “That’s correct.”
- “But that’s not really the issue of the race.”
Heritage Foundation alumni Mike Clancy, now in at least his sixth attempt for political office, is running for Virginia’s 10th congressional district in the U.S. House. Clancy has unsuccessfully run for federal and local offices in Fairfax County and Arlington County since 2001.
Project 2025 has become deeply unpopular as its policies gain more awareness in the public eye. Republican candidates around the country are running far away from any, even superficial, association with the Heritage Foundation. However, unlike in other races, in the VA-10 campaign, there is an actual, contributing member of the Heritage Foundation on the ballot—Clancy.
Now, Clancy hopes these extreme Project 2025 policies, policies he funded and touted, don’t become an issue in the race.
Senator Suhas Subramanyam, the Democratic nominee for Congress in VA-10 has made his opposition to the policies outlined in Project 2025 clear, citing the harm they would cause the district.
“I will stand up for the tens of thousands of federal civil servants who live in this district, and I am committed to protecting their jobs from being politicized or put on the chopping block,” said Senator Subramanyam.
According to the Congressional Research Service, there are 34,000 federal government employees and contractors living in Virginia’s 10th congressional district. Firing even a fraction of VA-10’s civil servants would decimate the local economy, creating a self-imposed recession.
Senator Subramanyam continued, “Furthermore, I will continue to be a champion for our seniors and veterans, and for ensuring that the benefits they’ve earned are protected as well.”
