After Trump Defended January 6th As A “Day of Love” at Univision Town Hall, Harris Campaign Releases New Ad Featuring Former U.S. Capitol Police Sergeant

In New Ad, “The Oath I Took,” Sergeant Aquilino Gonell Slams Trump’s Failure to Uphold His Oath to the Constitution

Undecided Latino Voters Increasingly See Trump’s Assault on Democracy As A Persuadable Message to Vote for Harris

SGT. GONELL: “I Fought And Nearly Died That Day Supporting And Defending The Constitution of the United States And I Would Do It Again Because That Is The Oath I Took. So Help Me God.”

After Trump defended January 6th as a “day of love” with “nothing done wrong at all,” the Harris-Walz campaign is releasing “The Oath I Took,” a new ad today, featuring former Capitol Police Sergeant Aquilino Gonell slamming Trump for his failure to uphold his oath to the Constitution and made clear he would always upload his oath.

The new ad features audio of Trump taking an oath to protect our democracy during his inauguration as visuals of insurrectionists taking over the Capitol building play. Sgt. Gonell, who also took an oath, slams Trump for not upholding his oath, recounts fighting to save our democracy against Trump’s mob of insurrectionists, and makes clear he would do it again because that is the oath he took.

The Oath I Took,” will be used as a tool to break through to undecided Latino voters. Harris-Walz campaign internal polling shows that emphasizing the events of January 6th and Trump’s assault on American’s free and fair elections is among the most persuadable messages to them as a reason to vote for Vice President Harris.

The ad comes as Trump was confronted by Ramiro González, a Republican Latino voter during his Univision town hall who found his actions on January 6 and the lies he spread “disturbing” and made clear he would not be voting for him. Sgt. Gonell also took to social media following Trump’s response with body camera video of insurrectionists attacking him to show “the love” he felt that day.

The ad will be part of the Harris campaign’s $370 million investment in TV, radio and digital reservations until Election Day. “The Oath I Took” will air across the battlegrounds in markets that reach Latino voters and will have an emphasis on high-viewership events and shows.

WATCH HERE

TRUMP: I, Donald John Trump, do solemnly swear that I will preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help me god.

SGT. GONELL: I took an oath too, when I joined the U.S. Army and when I became a Capitol police officer. Guided by that, I served in combat in Iraq to protect our nation and then again on steps of the Capitol, I defended our democracy. Donald Trump sent the attackers that day.

TRUMP: We are going to walk down to the Capitol.

SGT. GONELL: An out-of-control president, trying to steal an election he lost by millions of votes. I fought and nearly died that day, supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States, and I would do it again because that is the oath that I took. So help me god.

VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS: I’m Kamala Harris and I approve this message.
