NEW: Sears Refuses to Ask  Trump to Stop Firing Virginians When Directly Asked Three Times in Interview

Peter Alexander: “So just very quickly, yes or no, […] Would you tell President Trump not to fire any more federal workers?”

VIRGINIA – In a new interview on NBC News Now, Winsome Earle-Sears refuses to call on Donald Trump to stop firing Virginians as he threatens even more mass firings if the Republican-led federal government shuts down. This follows Sears downplaying and dismissing the attacks on Virginia jobs that have been devastating for the Commonwealth.

WATCH HERE:

Transcript:

  • Peter Alexander: You talk about, though, the potential loss of jobs, the president, the president is threatening to use this shutdown to lay off federal workers. So what do you say, Madam Governor, to those federal workers in your state who say Republicans don’t have their best interests in mind right now, especially after the DOGE cuts?
  • Winsome Earle-Sears:  I would say that if my opponent, again, Abigail Spanberger, cares about federal workers, she will ensure that the best way to ensure that federal workers stay in their jobs is to have Senators Kaine and Warner vote for a clean, continuing resolution so that negotiations continue.
  • Alexander: So, to be clear, would you urge the president then [not to cut federal jobs]?
  • Sears: Sir, if Senators Kaine and Warner. We only need seven Democrats who are, seven Senate Democrats, to come over and vote for a clean continuing resolution. What they’re doing now is having $1 trillion added without discussion to the resolution.
  • […]
  • AlexanderSo whether you know, even before we faced this shutdown deadline, the president was already cutting jobs. So would you tell President Trump not to cut the jobs of any more federal workers regardless?
  • SearsSo if we’re talking about across the board cuts, then again, we have to include Senators Kaine and Warner in this. They have a part to play.
  • AlexanderWhat’s your message to the president?
  • […]
  • Alexander: I understand, I’ll button it up with this. You recognize that obviously, the president was getting rid of federal worker jobs even before this shutdown conversation existed. So just very quickly, yes or no. And then I’ll move on. Would you tell the president, just let me interrupt quickly. Would you tell President Trump not to fire any more federal workers?
  • Sears: When is Senators Kaine and Warner going to stand up and say they agree with what you said? Then they shouldn’t fire any federal workers either.
  • Alexander: As I made clear, the job firing started even before the situation we’re in now.
