Yahoo Finance Reports: Thanks Mostly to Trump’s Iran War, Which Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA02) Supports, Gasoline Prices Are Up Nearly $1/Gallon From a Year Ago

Kiggans "has voted seven times against bipartisan resolutions to end the war "

See below for a press release from the Elaine Luria for VA02 campaign. By the way, since I worked at the US Energy Information Administration (on international oil markets, etc.) for 17+ years, I’ve got to point out that, in fact, the price of gasoline actually has been MUCH higher in August, when adjusting for inflation (which you 100% absolutely should when looking at historical comparisons!); for instance, back August 2008, gasoline prices were $5.85 per gallon; they were $4.97 per gallon in August 2006 and $4.74 per gallon in August 2022; etc. But no question, gasoline prices are up since Trump took office (they were at $3.51 per gallon in January 2025), and that’s mostly due to Trump’s war-of-choice in Iran – a war that Republicans in Congress, including Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA02), have voted repeatedly to support. Plus, a lot more importantly, this war has harmed our country’s military, our standing around the world (China and Russia are LOVING this!), etc., while costing tens of billions of dollars, U.S. casualties, suffering among the Iranian people, etc, etc.  A disaster, in other words, brought to you by Trump and his cult members in Congress, like Jen Kiggans, Rob Wittman, John McGuire, etc.

RELEASE: Yahoo Finance Reports “August 2026 most expensive August ever for drivers” – Jen Kiggans’ Failed Leadership is to Blame

Report: August 2026 was the most expensive August ever at the pump.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – A new report from Yahoo Finance found that August 2026 was the “most expensive August ever for drivers.” According to the report, the national average for gas prices remained above $4 a gallon every day of the month, and was stuck at $4.08 a gallon on August 31. The skyrocketing price at the pump comes as a result of Congresswoman Jen Kiggans and President Donald Trump’s war in Iran which continues to squeeze working families.

  • The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded fuel remains over $4 as of Aug. 31
  • Gas prices have never been higher for the month of August, breaking a record set in 2022, according to data from AAA.
  • Last week, AAA reported that the national average for gas prices had remained above $4 for all of August.
  • Prices did not dip below that level over the weekend and are at $4.08 per gallon as of Aug. 31.
  • For August 2026, the war between the U.S. and Iran — and in particular the volatility in the Strait of Hormuz — is driving prices higher.
  • At this time last year, AAA reports the average price of gas was $3.18, or roughly 90 cents cheaper.

Kiggans has said she “couldn’t be a stauncher supporter” of the war and has voted seven times against bipartisan resolutions to end the war or demand the president seek congressional authorization to continue it. In June, Kiggans was caught red-handed scrubbing “parts of her campaign website discussing the cost of gas and the economic struggles of Virginians,” as gas prices soared.

A recent report from The New York Times found that the Pentagon withheld dozens of military casualties caused by the Iran war from the American people.

A recent report from WAVY found that Virginians have paid up to $2,900 more since Donald Trump returned to office. A report from the Joint Economic Committee found that Virginia families have spent an average of $3,800 more for basic, everyday goods as Donald Trump and Jen Kiggans’ endless war and cost-spiking policies force higher prices on working Virginians.

A report found that grocery prices spiked at their fastest rate in four years while inflation reached its highest level in nearly three years as Jen Kiggans and President Donald Trump’s war in Iran and failed policies continue to squeeze Virginians. This report came after President Trump openly declared that he doesn’t even “think about Americans’ financial situation.”

Jen Kiggans has established a pattern of promising Virginians one thing in public, only to turn around and vote the other way in Washington. Kiggans lied when she promised to protect access to health care, only to turn around and vote for the largest cuts to Medicaid in history. Kiggans lied when she said she would extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits, but then voted to allow health care premiums to skyrocket. Kiggans lied again when she promised to protect clean energy tax credits, but then “flip-flopped” and voted to take a “sledgehammer” to the credits instead. Kiggans has voted 100% of the time with Donald Trump – demonstrating that she puts her D.C. party bosses ahead of the Virginians she claims to represent.

Kiggans was a major proponent of DOGE even as the agency wrecked Virginia’s economy and hurt veterans. Local media reported that “Kiggans embraced the program from the outset” and even said DOGE was “so necessary.” It has been reported that Kiggans’ backing of DOGE led to “the termination of more than $8.3 million in grants and leases tied to the district, including funding streams connected to veterans services and facilities.”
