Senate Republicans Stand with Trump Administration to Strip Healthcare from Hundreds of Thousands in the Commonwealth

Richmond—This week, the Trump Administration announced that it believes the Affordable Care Act (ACA) should be struck down. Ending the ACA wouldeliminate Medicaid expansion that extended coverage to up to an additional 400,000 Virginians; kick Virginians, including vulnerable seniors and people with pre-existing conditions, off their health insurance; and cripple rural hospitals already under immense financial distress.

Instead of standing up to President Trump, Virginia Senate Republicans are hosting a high-dollar fundraiser tonight with Vice President Mike Pence. Once again, Senate Republicans are cozying up to this extremist administration to put corporate donors ahead of Commonwealth families.

This isn’t the first time Senate Republicans have worked to deprive Virginians of healthcare. Just last year, these Senate Republicans voted against Medicaid expansion:

Richard H. Black
Charles W. Carrico, Sr.
Amanda F. Chase
John A. Cosgrove, Jr.
Bill R. DeSteph, Jr.
Siobhan S. Dunnavant
Ryan T. McDougle
Stephen D. Newman
Thomas K. Norment, Jr.
Mark D. Obenshain
Mark J. Peake
Bryce E. Reeves
Frank M. Ruff, Jr.
William M. Stanley, Jr.
Richard H. Stuart
Glen H. Sturtevant, Jr.
David R. Suetterlein

Senate Republicans can’t claim to govern responsibly while campaigning with Trump administration officials’, days after they called for the end to the ACA, and refuse to comment on it. How will they explain this to their constituents who will lose their healthcare without the ACA?
