Good analysis of the Virginia Clean Economy Act (VCEA) by Cindy of VAPLAN. I agree that the VCEA has “several much-needed reforms to [Virginia] energy policy…but needs to be far more aggressive and worry less about protecting utility [company] profits.” I also agree that the energy efficiency goals need to be much stronger than they are, as they’d still leave Virginia far behind many other states. And, ideally, this bill would have a binding fossil fuel moratorium, or at the minimum a de facto moratorium. Finally, I’d argue that the goal of 2050 is waaaaayyyyy too far out in the future, is not even close to aggressive enough, and should be more like the mid-2030s (which would be both feasible AND commensurate with the urgency of the climate crisis; 2050 – three decades from now! – is ridiculously slow…not serious at all).
