This morning on the Gene Rossi Show, Sen. Mark Warner had some pointed comments about his Senate Republican colleagues, about the Trump impeachment trial, and about Attorney General William Barr. Check it out, below. Here are a few highlights.
- “I was very impressed with the House managers…very powerful…Adam Schiff really was quite eloquent…the second night close, it was electric in the room…Who in this room doesn’t believe one, that this guy would do this, and two, that he wouldn’t do it again if he thought it was going to serve him? And I could tell if we’d been able to vote on witnesses at that moment in time, the result might have been a little bit different.”
- “I think there were a large number of Republicans who realized the fact pattern was not even repudiated. Then you had this kind of crazy argument from my law professor, Alan Dershowitz, that the president can do anything, which had my head spinning...[Republicans said] ‘he did it, but don’t worry Mark, after the trial he’ll be a changed man.’ And they’re right – he’s *worse*.”
- “I don’t know how some of these guys who were in the room and got exposed to this behavior ad nauseum weren’t willing more to speak up, even without subpoenas.”
- On AG Bill Barr’s actions re: Roger Stone’s sentencing: “I can’t find anybody, Democrat or Republican, who can cite any precedents on this…The Barr comments after the Trump tweets seem to me to be too little, too late.”
- Sen. Warner also had some important comments on veterans suicide and suicide prevention, which are definitely worth listening to.
