Federal Lawsuit Against Dominion Energy Charges “Intentional” and “Systemic” Discrimination Against African American Employees

Is anyone surprised at this?

Dominion Energy Inc., subsidiary Virginia Electric & Power Co., and contractors Frenzelit Inc. and Arc Energy Services schemed to discriminate against black employees and applicants as a class in recruitment, hiring, and employee retention, a new federal lawsuit charges.

The bias affected staffing of the “augmented workforce” at various Dominion power plants, according to the lawsuit filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

See the lawsuit, below – an “employment discrimination action, brought pursuant to the Civil Rights Act of 1866,” alleging that Dominion/VEPCO “have engaged in a company-wide pattern and practice of employment discrimination, both intentional and systemic, on the basis of race, against [plaintiffs Addison Carter and Tyrone Beaver] and similarly situated African American employees, former employees and applicants for employment…”

Of course, this is the same company that has tried to ram massive new fracked-gas infrastructure through the historically African-American Union Hill community, so…
