See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health. So, at this point (4/15), in Virginia we’re at 6,500 total reported cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 1,048 hospitalizations and 195 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 329 (+5%) in the latest statistics, which is a slightly slower rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 424 (+7%). As for hospitalizations, they went up 70 (+7%), from 978 to 1,048, which is a slightly slower rate of increase than the previous day (which was up 75, or +8%). Deaths are reported up 41 (from 154 to 195), compared to an increase of 5 (from 149 to 154) the previous day. So…terrible numbers on the deaths, but decent numbers on the rates of increase in confirmed cases and hospitalizations. Hopefully, the curve will continue to “flatten out” in coming days/weeks if we keep up the social distancing and other measures. Also, of course, we need a LOT more testing capacity, PPE, etc.
