See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (6/11), in Virginia we’re at 52,647 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 5,360 hospitalizations and 1,520 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 470 (0.9%) in the latest statistics, which is a slightly faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 439 (+0.8%). The number of TOTAL test results was 453,869 (up 10,383 from 443,486 yesterday), while the number of “PCR Only” tests was 405,025 (up 9,053 from 395,972 yesterday). These testing numbers are slightly above 10,000 per day (a number Gov. Northam has repeatedly stated as an important goal), but still lower than the 16,664 per day that Harvard’s Global Health Institute estimates we need to reopen safely and contain the virus. As for hospitalizations, they went up 88 (+1.7%), from 5,272 to 5,360, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 69 (+1.3%). Deaths are reported up 6 (from 1,514 to 1,520), compared to an increase of 18 (from 1,496 to 1,514) the previous day.
