So, at this point (7/18), in Virginia we’re at 76,373 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 7,147 hospitalizations and 2,025 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 940 (+1.2%) in the latest statistics, which is a slightly slower rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 1,002 (+1.3%). The number of TOTAL test results was 978,640 (up 14,418 from 964,222 yesterday), which is still well below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression). As for hospitalizations, they went up 60 (+0.8%), from 7,087 to 7,147, which is a slower rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 67 (+1.0%). Deaths are reported up 12 (from 2,013 to 2,025), compared to an increase of 6 (from 2,007 to 2,013) the previous day.
