The United States Department of Education awarded Prince William County Schools their Green Ribbon School designation today.
This is an incredible honor given only to 27 districts across the nation. Prince William County Schools are proud to accept this designation and will continue to be on the cutting edge of sustainable practices.
This award is given to inspire schools districts and institutions of higher education to strive for 21st-century excellence by highlighting promising school sustainability practices and resources that all can employ. The award recognizes the schools that:
Reduce environmental impact and cost;
Improve the health and wellness of schools, students, and staff;
Provide effective environmental and sustainability education.
Our school division, already a terrific record on sustainability and environmental impact, took it a step further last summer when the school board voted on a broad range of initiatives committed to sustainability and green practices. (See Below)
I cannot be more proud of our school board, school division and especially of our students and staff for all of their efforts on sustainability and the environment.
We will continue our push to full carbon neutrality and comprehensive sustainability practices.
