  • SENATE DEMS RESPOND TO WSJ ARTICLE ON 2015 McCABE RACE
Governor’s efforts helped ensure Democrats had competitive candidates in crucial districts

RICHMOND — Senate Democratic Caucus Chair Sen. A. Donald McEachin (D – Henrico) made the following statement in response to today’s article in the Wall Street Journal:

“Dr. Jill McCabe is a good, thoughtful, conscientious person. She was an extremely well-qualified candidate, and she would have made a superb legislator. My colleagues and I were grateful when she decided to run, and all of us remain exceedingly proud of the campaign she conducted. The General Assembly is a poorer place for her absence.

“Thanks to Gov. McAuliffe’s invaluable support, Democrats were able to compete in key districts across the Commonwealth in 2015. This was particularly important as we were fighting to take back the majority. With Gov. McAuliffe’s assistance, we were able to run strong, vibrant campaigns.”

  • Virginia State Sen. Chap Petersen demolishes ridiculous Wall St. Journal hit piece on Terry McAuliffe:

Correcting the Record. I don’t usually pay attention to “trending topics” on Facebook but I needed to speak out today to rebut a recent story that is simply untrue: namely, that Governor McAuliffe directed $500K+ in campaign funds in 2015 to a particular Dem candidate in order to influence the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email server. I’ve tried to be a pretty straight shooter in my political life, so let me state this plainly — I was involved in multiple Democratic Caucus strategy sessions in 2015 with the Governor and his staff. Our sole goal was to win control of the State Senate that fall. For that sole purpose, we made a heavy investment in the Loudoun County seat where Dr. Jill McCabe (an excellent candidate) was running. That investment was based upon her qualifications and the chances of winning that seat. Period. There was no other agenda. Again, I’ve refrained from making a lot of political comments on FB this election season because frankly everyone has heard enough. But I have personal knowledge of this latest allegation against the Governor and can say without equivocation that it is (and was) a non-issue.

  • Del. Marcus Simon also demolishes WSJ hit piece

There is a story in the Wall Street Journal that is so misleading and irresponsible I refuse to share a link to it. For those of you who may run across it online, and think to yourself “Oh My, how could this be?” The answer is it can’t. Beneath the sensational headline you get to the salient facts

Months after the completion of her campaign, then-Associate Deputy Director McCabe was promoted to Deputy, where, in that position, he assumed for the first time, an oversight role in the investigation into Secretary Clinton’s emails.

FBI officials said that after a meeting with the governor in Richmond on March 7, 2105 Mr. McCabe sought ethics advice from the bureau and followed it.

Mr. McCabe’s supervision of the Clinton email case in 2016 wasn’t seen as a conflict or an ethics issue because his wife’s campaign was over by then and Mr. McAuliffe wasn’t part of the email probe, officials said.

  • DPVA Chair Statement on Virginia Republicans’ Latest Desperate Political Stunt

The Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA) Chairwoman Susan Swecker released the following statement on Virginia Republicans’ latest desperate political stunt:

“The Republican Party of Virginia is desperate to distract from Donald Trump’s losing race and inexcusable treatment of women – even though they have fully embraced and enabled his bigotry throughout this election.

“Virginia Republicans wouldn’t dare pass up an opportunity to characterize a strong female candidate and an accomplished doctor and hospital administrator as nothing more than a political neophyte and alleged patsy in an impossible scheme. This story is utterly baseless.

“This is who they are, and it’s a losing strategy.”

  • True Blue

Trying to exploit McCabe’s run for Senate and her husband’s promotion is ridiculous. An accomplished, smart couple is being targeted by WSJ and the RPV for obvious breitbartian abuse.

Dr. McCabe came close to winning in Loudoun – only 943 difference; overall district difference of 2,354 because of Prince William. She had the best showing yet against a vile state senator who has storied history. Oh, to have more senators who actually understand science!

Mr. McCabe was involved in thwarting the Woodbridge high school terrorist named Amin. Thank goodness for counterterrorism and McCabe’s expertise. Maybe that’s why he was promoted; for his actual diligence, detection, and discovery? Of course that would never occur to conspiracy theorists.

  • Statement From Hillary Clinton On California National Guard Scandal

“I am appalled that National Guard officials are attempting to recoup money from soldiers who accepted bonuses a decade ago – with the active encouragement of government officials and through no fault of their own – for bravely enlisting to serve our country during a time of war. These troops deserve our support and our deepest gratitude; they served admirably and upheld their part of the bargain. It is unacceptable to now subject them and their families to undue financial burdens thanks to to mismanagement from the California National Guard and rigid bureaucracy on the part of the Pentagon.”

“I am calling on Congress to swiftly pass legislation to right this wrong. In the meantime, we should assist these families in identifying and applying for relief as well establishing an expedited review process. We simply cannot allow this type of mistreatment of veterans, for any reason.”
