Former U.S. Congresswoman Leslie Byrne endorses Stephanie Clifford for 49th District Delegate
Arlington, Va.-Leslie Byrne, a distinguished former Virginia delegate, White House official and first female U.S. Representative for Virginia, has endorsed Stephanie Clifford for the 49th District House of Delegates seat.
“I spent eight years in the House of Delegates and I’ve seen what it takes to get things done,” said Byrne. “Stephanie Clifford has the characteristics and skills necessary to be an effective delegate for the people of Northern Virginia.”
Byrne said Clifford’s progressive work and down-to-earth personality ensures she will work tirelessly for the values of the 49th District.
“Stephanie has entered the public arena much as I did,” said Byrne referring to her activism before serving in the House of Delegates in 1986. “Volunteering puts you in the middle of the issues that affect Virginians and Stephanie is connected to the real needs of 49th District residents.”
Clifford said that she would continue to build on many of the issues Byrne had made cornerstones to her life in public service. Clifford pointed to Byrne’s start as a community activist prior to entering public service, as proof of how volunteering can be progressive change catalyst.
“I’m honored to have the support of such a revolutionary Virginian,” said Clifford. “Congresswoman Byrne has not only broken barriers for women in Virginia, but also started important conversations on how to improve life in this state for women, families and communities. I look forward to adding to those conversations as a member of the House of Delegates.”
The Democratic Primary is on Aug. 23.
