As Challenger to the Conservatives: Which Side Are You On?

I’ve said that I’m wrapping my candidacy in the mantle of “The Challenger,” which includes my taking the approach of challenging the voters of the 6th District. One important challenge, of course, is that directed at the good, decent conservative folks who have been conned into supporting a force that is not good, nor decent, nor conservative. Here’s one way I might begin a talk to such conservatives:

My reason for running is, at its heart beyond the political level, that spectrum that goes from liberal to conservative. It’s about a more fundamental question of the deep moral and spiritual nature of what we support in the world.

Are we supporting what is honorable, honest, caring, and principled? Are we supporting forces that are trying to make the world a better place? Or are we strengthening the dark forces that degrade the world-the forces of greed and the lust for power, of a willingness to sacrifice others, and trample on what is sacred, in order to gratify unworthy desires?

“This is the fundamental spiritual/moral question faced by humanity and embodied in the teachings of all the world’s great religions-including and especially the Biblical religions.

“The Bible is continually asking the question: Which side are you on in the battle between the righteous and the wicked?

“That is the question I pose to you today.”

From there, I would go to the issue of being DECEIVED into mistaking a force of a destructive kind for being a force for the good.
