Statement on Election of Rob Krupicka to the House of Delegates and Kenny Alexander to the State Senate

Richmond, VA- With the special elections in the 45th House of Delegates district and the 5th Senate District now complete, Alexandria City Councilman Rob Krupicka has been elected to the House of Delegates and Delegate Kenneth Alexander has been elected to the State Senate.

“I have had the pleasure of sitting besides Delegate Alexander for the last few sessions and I can assure you he will be sorely missed,” said Delegate Mark Sickles.  “He will make an excellent Senator for Norfolk and Chesapeake.  I am also looking forward to serving with Rob Krupicka in his new role.  I have had the pleasure of working with Rob on regional issues and I know he will be a great new member of the House Democratic Caucus.”

“As a former local government official I am pleased that Alexandria City Councilman Rob Krupicka will be joining us this winter,” said Democratic Leader David Toscano.  “Members of local government understand the problems created for local budgets when Richmond fails to adequately fund our schools, roads, or human services.”

“Today was a victory for our community and for Democrats across the Commonwealth,” added Delegate-elect Rob Krupicka.  “It was a victory for everyone who believes that we should move forward together. It was a victory for everyone who believes that we should spend more time uniting people than dividing them.”

With the election of Delegate Alexander to the State Senate there will now be a special election to fill the 89th House of Delegates District.  The House Democratic Caucus looks forward to supporting the Democratic nominee to ensure that this seat remains in Democratic hands.
