Richmond, VA – Today, Tim Kaine released a series of new television and radio ads featuring Virginia women who would be affected by George Allen’s support for policies that restrict women’s access to health care and deny women equal economic opportunities.
“This is Virginia. George Allen would restrict her choices,” the ad says. Allen has endorsed measures that restrict access to health care like federal ‘personhood’ bills that could outlaw all abortions and jeopardize access to birth control, and the Blunt Amendment that would allow employers to deny preventive care to employees including birth control. During his previous terms in Congress, George Allen voted against the Family and Medical Leave Act, which gives parents time off to care for a newborn or a sick relative, and voted in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade. This year, he refused to speak out against Virginia’s invasive and unnecessary ultrasound law or commit to laws that help women secure equal pay for equal work.
“George Allen is wrong for Virginia. She can make her own choices,” the ad concludes.
