LuAnn Bennett Statement on Captain Khan & Trump Attack on Gold Star Khan Family

McLean – Today, LuAnn Bennett released the following statement after Donald Trump attacked Virginians Khizr and Ghazala Khan, the parents of fallen Muslim-American U.S. soldier who publicly called on Republican leaders to “repudiate” Trump. Barbara Comstock, in a statement posted to Facebook yesterday, refused to renounce or withdraw her support for Trump, who continued his attack on the Khan family this morning.

“Khizr and Ghazala Khan represent the very best of America, and the very best of Virginia. They are models of stoicism and patriotism in the face of heartbreaking sacrifice. Their son, a graduate of the University of Virginia and a Muslim American, was an American hero whose sacrifice serves as a reminder that we enjoy the basic freedoms that are the fabric of our country because people like him volunteer their lives to protect us.

“Despite all their family has given to our country, my opponent refused to renounce Trump’s attacks on their character. With this refusal, my opponent failed the basic test of leadership. That she continues to support a politician who attacks Virginian military families and is hostile to our Muslim community solely for political gain is abhorrent and reprehensible. I join the Khan family in their call for all elected leaders to publicly repudiate Mr. Trump and withdraw their support for him.
