Here are a few national and Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Saturday, October 15. Also check out President Obama’s weekly address, this time on “how we can empower people through science, technology, and innovation to lead our communities, our country, and our world in the future.”
- Trump calls accusers liars, unattractive as more emerge (Again, how could any woman – or any man who has ever cared about a woman, or any human being with any empathy or sanity – vote for this disgrace?)
- Former ‘Apprentice’ contestant accuses Trump of groping her during meeting
- Woman says Trump reached under her skirt and groped her in 1990s
- Cohen: How Dictatorships Are Born (“Germans fell for the rubbish. The Republican Party fell for the garbage.”)
- Trump Accuser Says She ‘Jumped Out’ Of Her Skin During Debate
- Countries Reach Landmark Deal to Limit Global Warming From Air Conditioners (“The move on HFCs is a significant step in international efforts to fight global warming” By the way, this is something Trump would never do, since he doesn’t “believe” in the overwhelming science behind anthropogenic global warming. That alone should disqualify him, of course, if we were living in a sane, educated world.)
- A collapse in Arctic sea ice volume spells disaster for the rest of the planet (Speaking of overwhelming evidence…)
- No, the Great Barrier Reef is not dead, but it is very, very sick (And more overwhelming evidence…)
- Trump’s refusal to accept assessments on Russian hacks dismays ex-security officials
- When women feel that hand begin to creep (“A silver lining to this dreadful election is to embolden girls and women to speak up, not submit.”)
- Trump Body Shames Clinton, Too! ‘I Wasn’t Impressed, Believe Me’ (Anyone who supports Trump is enabling this nightmare.)
- All the assault and harassment allegations against Donald Trump (“A comprehensive timeline”)
- Donald Trump’s dangerous ploy to destabilize democracy (“Backed into a corner, the GOP nominee spews his most inflammatory demagoguery yet.”)
- Can Donald Trump be saved by the bell? (“The final match between Trump and Clinton is fast approaching — and this one might knock the GOP nominee out for good.”)
- Has Europe found an antidote to authoritarianism? (“New parties and citizen movements have begun to turn back the illiberal wave.” We need our own equivalent here to turn back the neo-fascist wave of Trumpism, Tea Party-ism, etc.)
- The Fury and Failure of Donald Trump (“Win, lose or drop out, the Republican nominee has laid waste to the American political system. On the trail for the last gasp of the ugliest campaign in our nation’s history”)
- President Obama Just Showed Us How to Fix the Republican Party (“You can’t let them disown Trump” Nope, it’s THEIR party and THEIR presidential nominee – they built this horror!)
- More Trump accusers come forward (“The home stretch of the election is becoming a referendum on whether people believe the GOP nominee is a sexual predator.” Uh, he bragged about it!)
- Trump’s bizarre descent into vitriol (“In an eye-opening speech, he seems to suggest his accusers weren’t attractive enough to have merited his attention, and takes a swipe at Hillary Clinton’s looks, as well.”)
- Pence: ‘I don’t understand the basis’ of Michelle Obama’s claims
- Donald Trump’s “no concession” stand: He and his hate-filled followers will not accept a Clinton victory and that’s when things get truly chilling (“Trump and his supporters will not go quietly — already armed loyalists have camped outside a Democratic office”)
- Report: Donald Trump may have lied about giving money to 9/11 charities
- Springtime for Donald (“Let’s just say it: Trump sounds more and more like Hitler.” Or Mussolini, Berlusconi, or any number of third-world dictators.)
- Trump Campaign Produces Not Very Credible “Witness” to Rebut Assault Claim (“This is not Gilberthorpe’s first foray into politics. In the early ’80s, when he wasn’t jetsetting around the U.S., Gilberthorpe says he was tasked with finding the ‘youngest and prettiest’ boys for sex parties with Tory ministers.” You can’t make this stuff up!)
- Feds Charge Kansas Militia Members With Plotting to Bomb Somali Immigrants (Domestic, far-right terrorism…very dangerous.)
- At Virginia Union, female legislators, others criticize Trump’s comments about women
- Democratic strongholds in Northern Virginia see big increases in early voting (“Virginia’s Fairfax and Loudoun counties are seeing some of the largest spikes in early voting in the 2016 presidential election, another positive sign for Democrats who feel Hillary Clinton has a strong advantage over Republican Donald J. Trump in the former swing state.”)
- ‘Right-to-work’ is hot election issue between unions, business in Va. (Vote NO on this one!)
- U-Va. dean speaks publicly ahead of Rolling Stone trial, says the story devastated her
- Dominion wants to put a pipeline through farmland designated for conservation (“A new motion filed Thursday is part of the growing opposition to the Atlantic Coast Pipeline.” Dominion needs to be broken up.)
- Students decry Trump’s ‘locker room talk’ (“On college campuses already immersed in soul-searching over sexual violence, Donald Trump’s boastful talk about assaulting women has brought a disturbing disconnect.”)
- Rocket launch planned in Virginia on Sunday after failed 2014 attempt. Here’s how you can see it.
- Garrett: Trump reducing staff in Virginia ‘doesn’t change anything’ in 5th District race
- Dittmar campaign raises concerns over armed Trump supporter outside office (As usual, the corporate media is waayyyy behind the blogs on reporting a story.)

- Forecast: Beautiful fall weather today and tomorrow, turning even warmer early week
