Gillespie’s Successor Believes the Former RNC Chair Should Campaign With Trump — Not Against Him

Gillespie Still Struggling to Unify the Party While Trump Approval Ratings at 36% in Virginia

Last night on Meet the Press Daily, RNC Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel told Chuck Todd that she is encouraging current candidates to bring Donald Trump in and campaign with them in their states or districts. This comes after Gillespie asked Donald Trump for his help on the campaign trail back in May.

This is interesting news for Ed Gillespie, as a new poll released yesterday has President Trump’sapproval rating at 36%.

Regardless, Gillespie still has a lot of work to do with his base. Corey Stewart told the Fauquier Times yesterday that “I’ve not used the word endorse or support,” in regards to Gillespie.

“Virginia needs a governor to stand up to Donald Trump — not one who is going to be Trump’s lobbyist in Virginia like Ed Gillespie” said DPVA spokeswoman Christina Freundlich. “If Gillespie wants to prove to his base that he stands alongside the Trump, then he should take his successor’s advice and hit the trail with the President. Virginians will then have a clear understanding where his priorities lie — either with Donald Trump, or with the people of the Commonwealth.”
