I couldn’t agree more with this letter, by Virginia Democratic House Leader David Toscano (excellent leadership on his part) and many of his colleagues (from both sides of the aisle, including House Speaker Bill Howell) opposing cuts to rail transportation funding in the FY 2018 proposed federal budget. Here’s something I didn’t know, but that I found very interesting: “Of the 140 Delegates and Senators in the Virginia General Assembly, 111 represent districts within a 20-mile radius of an Amtrak station.” In sum, far from cutting this funding, investment in high-speed rail, light rail, etc. should be INCREASED big time. I don’t even understand how anyone can be against this, honestly…
