Charlottesville Mayor Mike Signer: “Look at the campaign [Donald Trump] ran, I mean look at the intentional courting both on the one hand of all these white supremacist…anti-Semitic groups and look on the other hand the repeated failure to step up, condemn, denounce, silence, put to bed all those different efforts just like we saw yesterday. And this is not hard. There are two words that need to be said over and over again – domestic terrorism and white supremacy – that is exactly what we saw on display this weekend, and we just aren’t seeing leadership from the White House.” “I hope that if the facts are there that we vigorously prosecute this as a case of domestic terrorism; this cannot be tolerated in a free society, we stand on the rule of law…there has to be a stop put to this violent white supremacy.”

“Old saying, when you dance with the devil…the devil changes you. I think they made a choice in that campaign, a very regrettable one, to really go to people’s prejudices, to go to the gutter. These influences around the country, these anti-Semites, racists, aryans, Nazis, KKK, they were always in the shadows. They have really given — they have been given a key and a reason to come into the light. That’s exactly what happened last week. If you look to the chatter online, they said this will be a shot heard around the world, this will be Alt-Right 2.0 in Charlottesville. The times has come for this to stop. This should be a turning point. This movement jumped the shark and it happened yesterday. People are dying and I do think that it’s now on the president and on all of us to say, enough is enough. This movement has run its course.”
