Here are a few national and Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Sunday, November 12.
- Trump criticized for saying Putin is sincere in denial of election meddling (Yes, our so-called “president” is either a “useful idiot” or a traitor.)
- CIA chief Mike Pompeo contradicts Trump, says Russia meddled in 2016 election (“In a statement the CIA said Pompeo ‘stands by and has always stood by’ the intelligence community assessment”)
- After a Disciplined Week in Asia, Trump Unloads on Critics (As usual, Trump’s tweets were nonsensical, filled with spelling and grammatical mistakes, nasty, etc. Yep, ladies and gentlemen, that’s our imbecilic, sociopathic “president” for ya. Ugh.)
- Cambridge Analytica Denies Working With Russia, Unconvincingly
- ‘These Are Not The Actions of an Innocent Man’ (“Trump’s after-the-fact complicity in Russia’s election meddling is abundantly clear.”)
- Former Moore colleague: ‘Common knowledge’ that he dated high school girls
- How Flynn — and the Russia scandal — landed in the West Wing (“Christie mounted a campaign against Flynn for the national security adviser job. He lost — with major consequences.”)
- Trump clarifies Putin comments: ‘I’m with our agencies’ on election meddling (Wait, what? First he says he believes Putin, then he says he believes our intelligence agencies? Is he a traitor, useful idiot or what???)
- Democrat: Effort to delay Alabama Senate election like a ‘dictatorship’ (You can’t delay an election simply because you’re afraid you might lose!)
- Democrats salute week that saw emergence of an anti-Trump coalition (“‘Energy and anger’ shifting from Republicans amid high turnout, analysts say, as Republican pollster acknowledges challenges ahead for party”)
- Advertisers distance themselves from Hannity after Moore coverage (Anyone who advertises on Hannity should NOT get your business.)
- Trump Team Begins Drafting Middle East Peace Plan (Yeah, good luck with that.)
- Jerry Brown, President of the Independent Republic of California (“As he crusades across Europe, the governor is acting like the leader of a sovereign country—an alternative to the United States in the Trump era.” Jerry Brown would be an INFINITELY better president than Trump. Of course, so would pretty much anyone, but seriously, that was NOT meant as a backhanded compliment. LOL)
- The Weinstein Moment and the Trump Presidency (“The producer and other powerful men are facing repercussions for their alleged abusive behavior. Will the President?”)
- More advertisers are dropping Hannity (“These public statements — from 23andme, ELOQUII, Keurig, Nature’s Bounty, and realtor.com, come in the wake of Hannity’s support for Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore and his suggestions that the four women who accused Moore of sexual misconduct this week are lying.” How could any of those companies ever have advertised on this scumbag’s show?)
- Trump Nominee for Federal Judgeship Has Never Tried a Case (“The lawyer, Brett Talley, is the fourth judicial nominee under President Trump to receive a ‘not qualified’ rating from the bar association and the second to receive the rating unanimously. Since 1989, the association has unanimously rated only two other judicial nominees as not qualified.”)
- Donald Trump’s Asia tour leaves observers perplexed (“First Donald Trump insulted North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, then, hours later, said he hoped the two could be friends in the future. It is exactly the kind of contradiction that has typified his five-nation tour of Asia and left many observers scratching their heads.”)
- A tale of two Trumps: Duterte hosts US leader in the Philippines (Duterte is utterly heinous; why is the “president” paying him a visit?)
- ‘Too Alabama for Alabama’: SNL brutally mocks Roy Moore in opening sketch
- After Tuesday’s Democratic sweep might some congressional seats be in play in 2018?
- Editorial: Northam’s wide-ranging, but workable, to-do list (“Republicans in the General Assembly must recognize the risk of refusing to seek a solution on Medicaid expansion and extending health care coverage to the 400,000 Virginians who would be eligible under the Affordable Care Act.” That’s priority #1 for the new Virginia General Assembly.)
- Let’s reflect on the coming nightmare for Virginia Republicans
- EDITORIAL: Kaine tries to revive ‘public option’ (The Free Lance-Star editorial board confirms that it does, indeed, have a strong right-wing – and wrong – bent.)
- Charlottesville unrest was a factor for many Virginia voters (“Unease over violent white nationalist rallies in Charlottesville this summer and President Donald Trump’s response loomed in the minds of many Virginia voters during Tuesday’s elections in which Democrats made significant gains, according to progressive advocacy groups and interviews with voters.”)
- Virginia governor’s race to be focus of forum (Prediction: they will tell us what amazing, brilliant campaigns they both ran, and in Gillespie’s case how it was TOTALLY not his fault that he lost, blah blah blah.)
- Lessons and expectations from Virginia’s 2017 elections
- LaHood report on Metro urges dedicated funding, bus fare hike, trim in pension costs
- Editorial: Southwest Virginia depends on the kindness of strangers (God, this is dumb. For starters, there aren’t “two Virginias,” there are numerous “Virginias.” Second, Democrats absolutely do not ignore Southwest Virginia. Third…just stop.)
- D.C.-area forecast: A little warmer today; light showers late tonight into tomorrow
