The following, about this horrendous situation involving the apparent gruesome torture/murder of permanent U.S. resident Jamal Khashoggi by a Saudi hit squad in Turkey, is from Yasmine Taeb. This entire situation, including the pathetically weak response by Trump et al, is truly sickening. The fact that Khashoggi, who was a Virginia resident, attended a fundraiser on October 14, 2017, just brings the horror home even more.
One year ago, Jamal Khashoggi attended a fundraiser for our then-Democratic nominee for Governor, Ralph Northam.
Trump’s response and attempts to actively cover up this gruesome murder, is truly disgusting. We’ve witnessed a lot of horrific and unconscionable policies and actions from this president, but actively working to cover up the gruesome murder of a permanent U.S. resident at the hands of an autocratic regime is truly sickening.
This president then continuously raising Jamal’s immigration status to try to imply that his life is less worthy than that of a U.S. citizen again shows the complete disregard he has for the rights and liberties of some of our most vulnerable residents–including immigrants, refugees, and political dissidents who are escaping torture and persecution in their home countries. Jamal was a permanent U.S. resident and is afforded the same rights and liberties under our Constitution; he was a fellow Virginian and we demand #JusticeForJamal.
