Rep. Dave Brat (R-VA07) voted “nay” on approving the conference report on H.R. 6157, which included the Continuing Appropriations Act for 2019. (Roll Call 405, 9/26/18). Despite Brat’s vote, both the House and Senate passed the bill and the President signed it. (Pub. L. 115-245). On the final vote in the House, 176 of Dave’s fellow Republicans voted “yea.”
Section 118 of the Continuing Appropriations Act extended the Violence Against Women Act (scheduled to expire on September 30, 2018) through December 7, 2018. Therefore, by voting “nay” Brat voted to allow the Violence Against Women Act to expire.
