Op-Ed: Mike O’Reilly, the Right Choice for the 86th District

1

Editor’s note – Yesterday, I posted a guest submission from a supporter of Chad Thompson, one of four Democratic candidates for the nomination in HD86. Now, here’s one in support of Mike O’Reilly. Note that the nominating caucus will be held this Saturday, January 12 (see here for more details). Also note that, tonight, there will be an HD 86 candidate forum at the Sunset Hills Montessori School in Reston, beginning at 7:30 pm until 9pm. I’m hoping it’s going to be live streamed…

Mike O’Reilly, the Right Choice for the 86th District

To the Editor:

I live in Herndon and I have known Mike O’Reilly for many years and have had the honor of working with him on many occasions.  Mike is the most knowledgeable and prepared candidate to serve as Delegate for Virginia 86th District.

Mike and his family are long-time residents of the Town of Herndon.  Mike owns a law firm in Herndon as well.  Over the years he has served on several boards and commissions at both the town and county levels.  He also served on the Town Council and served as Mayor of the Town of Herndon, the third largest town in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  During his term he was able to lower taxes while maintaining a high level of services and while also accomplishing such things as opening a new Police Station, opening a well-regulated day labor site, and opening a new Senior Center.

Mike is highly involved in non-profit organizations in the Town and the County, from Arts Herndon, to the Chamber of Commerce, to Fairfax Falls Church Partnership to Prevent and End Homelessness, to name a few,  serving on their Boards and often doing pro-bono work. His efforts have had a direct impact on improving the lives of our community members.

Mike has also been highly involved in County transportation issues. He has served on the Board of Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority, helping to ensure the financing and construction of Phase 1 of the Silver Line Metrorail project.

As a result of his multi-faceted work in the town and the County, Mike has forged friendly working relationships with many local elected officials and other leaders, a necessary talent to get things accomplished.

Mike is well-aware of the needs of the 86th district as well as the Northern Virginia Region, including issues such as gun violence, education, women’s rights and health care.  He has the legal skills, legislative skills, business relationships, and assertiveness to be well-prepared in Richmond and to stand up for us and our values.

I wholeheartedly support Mike O’Reilly for Virginia Delegate of the 86th District.
