In a House of Delegates floor speech yesterday (see below), Del. Lee Carter (D-Manassas City/Prince William County) argued that sexual assault survivors “should be entitled to choose whichever legal venue they desire to seek justice.” Del. Carter added, “when I was raped, I did not report to law enforcement, because I did not believe that that was a way I would achieve justice.” This prompted numerous exchanges on social media, including a heated exchange with 2013 House of Delegates Democratic candidate Jasper Hendricks on Twitter last night, in which Del. Carter told Hendricks: “Eat shit before you even think about accusing a survivor of lying again.” Check it out.
