Like Beto O’Rourke, ALL 2020 Dem Presidential Candidates Should Campaign Early and Often in Virginia

How much Dem presidential candidates help Virginia Dems in 2019 should help determine who we support in 2020

I’m very glad to see 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke coming to Virginia next week (“O’Rourke will host town halls and meet and greets in Norfolk, Hampton, Williamsburg and six other Virginia locations April 16th and 17th”). Not because I support O’Rourke – I am totally undecided at this point – but because what O’Rourke’s doing (including his appearance with House of Delegates candidate Josh Cole; see the following image) is exactly what ALL Democratic 2020 presidential candidates should be doing. Why do I say this?

Simple. Because in 2019, Virginia is the only state with elections that could flip both legislative chambers from “red” to “blue”; because Virginia Democrats need all the help we can get in order to make that happen; and because with our top state-wide officials tarnished by scandal, others – Senators Kaine and Warner, Reps. Wexton, Spanberger, Luria, etc., and the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, among others – are going to have to take up the slack. Which is why I want to see every single 2020 Democratic presidential candidate campaigning in Virginia from now through November, not for themselves per se but for Virginia House and Senate Democratic candidates. And yes, I’m going to be keeping score…and determining who I will support for the nomination in part according to this metric.
