According to Watson, speaking this morning on “CBS This Morning” (see video, below) she has nothing to gain by coming forward about her alleged rape (which she describes in detail on the program). Watson says, “I didn’t need this, but I had to tell the truth.” On allegations against Watson about an ex-boyfriend and a restraining order, Watson responds:
“What does that have to do with what happened to me in 2000?…I don’t want to give breath to the smears that were put out…I don’t want to give power to Justin…and act like I have to defend myself…There’s this expectation that we’re supposed to protect our black men at all costs…and there’s been this idea that…this is something [black women are] supposed to grin and bear.”
Watson says she wants “action from the Virginia legislature,” does not want any money, just wants “to support Dr. Tyson” and wants the people of Virginia “to know the truth.” Watson says, emotionally, that she feels guilty that she didn’t come forward earlier, blames herself in part for what happened to Vanessa Tyson.
