A few months ago I had a panic attack and a bout of depression. I’d never felt that way before and once I’d started to recover a bit and look for some help I posted a Twitter thread about what happened to me. One of the first people to reach out to me was RD Huffstetler. I received some texts and nice comments from folks, but RD called me because he wanted to hear if I was ok. And he checked in with me the next day. And kept checking in to make sure that everything was alright. That’s the kind of guy RD is.
I first met RD when we were on the campaign trail, two Marine veterans who were now running for Congress from Virginia (RD in VA05; me in VA01). We both had young families, exciting visions for the future of the commonwealth and worked our butts off to try and make it a reality. After a long, exhausting campaign, we both came up a bit short. I was ready to hang it up for a while and take a needed break, but shortly after the elections last November, I talked to RD and he was ready to give it a go again. He’s tenacious and never quits. That’s the kind of guy he is.
It’s going to be a tough fight and RD is ready. He’s a proven fundraiser and has had a fully staffed campaign up and running for several months now. He’s got name recognition from his last campaign and I’m confident he’s the best prepared to face the challenges that lay ahead.
I’m endorsing RD for the Democratic primary in the 5th Congressional District because he’s smart, hardworking and one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. I hope you’ll join me in supporting his campaign because he’s going to need our help. Check out his website at rdforva.com. There are a ton of opportunities to volunteer and I’d invite you to donate what you can to continue to support this grassroots funded campaign.
