Apparently, Virginia House Republicans learned absolutely nothing from the shellacking they just took on November 5. Check out the following press release from the Virginia House GOP, followed by some information on the newly elected Virginia House Republican Leader, Del. Todd Gilbert, who previously served as Majority Leader…until he lost his majority, in part because of how extreme (according to VAPLAN’s 2019 scorecard, Gilbert is THE furthest right of any member of the Virginia House of Delegates!) and out of touch with the majority of Virginia voters he is.
So who is Todd Gilbert? Check out some highlights!
Here he is, claiming that in the “vast majority of…cases,” abortions are “matters of lifestyle convenience.”
And here Gilbert is, talking about his on-campus “concealed carry” bill. Just what we need, huh?
Here’s Gilbert (around 21 minutes in) claiming that anti-LGBT discrimination “really doesn’t exist.” Seriously, he believes delusional, bigoted s*** like this, yet Virginia House Republicans think he’s a great choice for their Leader.
Gilbert’s proud of his super-high rating from the far-right organization that puts on the CPAC conference loony-tunes/hate fest.
‘Nuff said.
Yep, he called Hillary Clinton a “gangster.”
He claims that “illegal immigrants…chose to [live in fear].” Not that people like him make them fearful, mind you.
He’s a climate science denier…but of course, that’s basically a requirement for the wacko right these days!
Beyond disgusting, even for a gun nut like Gilbert.
Here he is comparing refugees to a poisonous bottle of wine. Don’t ask.
Also see here for then-State Sen. Donald McEachin’s statement blasting Gilbert’s crazy conspiracy theory (apparently, “urban” legislators are hell bent on taking farms away and destroying farmers’ “heritage”) with regard to cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay.
So yeah, the guy’s extreme, bigoted and completely bonkers, yet Virginia House Republicans have made kept him on as their fearless leader. And Virginia House Republicans why they keep losing elections?
