The House Budget invests in Virginians Today and Tomorrow

RICHMOND— The Virginia House of Delegates passed the House Budget today on a 67-32 vote after engrossment. The Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee introduced the House Budget bill on Monday (HB 30) on the floor of the House of Delegates, outlining its proposal for the 2021 and 2022 fiscal years and making amendments to the budget Governor Ralph Northam released in December 2019.

The House budget stresses investments in funding in the areas of education, workforce development, healthcare, and it will grow Virginia’s rainy-day reserves to the highest peak in the history of the Commonwealth. The House budget passed out of the Appropriations Committee on a 20-1 vote this past Sunday.

The House Majority Leader, Del. Charniele Herring, and the House Appropriations Committee Chairman, Del. Luke Torian, released the following statements:

“House Democrats are proud of this budget, which makes vital investments in Virginians for today and tomorrow,” House Majority Leader Charniele Herring said. “This budget ensures that we place a priority on teachers, our children, our workforce, and the future — by investing now and saving for tomorrow — which will make all of Virginia stronger.”

“The House budget is the most progressive in Virginia’s history, helping advance equality of opportunity across the Commonwealth while guarding Virginia’s AAA bond rating and shoring up our reserves,” House Appropriations Committee Chairman Luke Torian said. “Last fall the people of Virginia told us they were looking for a change. We listened and we are following through with a historic budget that will move Virginia forward.”
