Great stuff; see below for video of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ strong endorsement of former VP Joe Biden for President. As Sanders said:
“Today, I am asking all Americans…every Democrat…very Independent…a lot of Republicans to come together in this campaign to support your candidacy, which I endorse, to make certain that we defeat somebody who I believe…is the most dangerous president in the modern history of this country, a president…who downplayed this pandemic…who has not used the Defense Production Act…is threatening to fire Dr. Fauci…who has been, day after day the voice of science to the American people…For all of those reasons and so many more…a president who apparently has never read the constitution…who believes he’s a above the law…who lies all of the time…is a racist and a sexist and a homophobe and a xenophobe and a religious bigot...we’ve got to make Trump a one-term president…We need you in the White House; I will do all that I can to see that that happens, Joe…It’s imperative that all of us work together to do what has to be done…Look forward to working with you and bringing some great people into those task forces.”
This endorsement, as Joe Biden says, “means a great deal.” The fact is, Biden and Sanders are – as Biden says – “apart on some issues but…awfully close on a whole bunch of others…I’m going to need you, not just to campaign but to govern.” Sanders emphasized areas where he’s fairly close to Biden on the issues, such as the raising the minimum wage to $15/hour. Biden said:
“I want to thank you for being…the most powerful voice for a fairer and more just America. It’s a voice like yours that refuses to allow us just to accept what is…that we can’t change what’s wrong in our nation…You don’t get enough credit, Bernie, for being the voice that forces us to take a hard look in the mirror and ask ourselves, have we done enough – and we haven’t…”
So, with that, we’ve got an extraordinary degree of Democratic unity heading into the most crucial election in our nation’s – hell, in our planet’s – history. And the bottom line is, if you understand the urgent need to make Trump a one-term president, hopefully a bad memory and a horrible aberration in our nation’s history, then you need to do everything you can to make that happen this November. It’s great to know that Bernie Sanders plans to do just that.
I’m speaking now about our nation’s economic response to COVID — and I’ll have a special guest with me. Tune in: https://t.co/VTJPX6da0v
