See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health. So, at this point (4/1), in Virginia we’re at 1,484 total reported cases, 208 hospitalizations and 34 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 234 (+19%) in the latest statistics, which is a slighlty lower rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 230 (+23%). As for hospitalizations, they went up 43 (+26%), from 165 to 208, which is a faster rate of increase than the previous day (which was up 29, or +21%). Deaths went up 7 (from 27 to 34), compared to an increase of 2 (from 25 to 27) the previous day – and the largest single day increase in deaths so far. So overall, not great news, particularly on the deaths, but hopefully this curve will really start flattening out in coming days if we keep up the social distancing and other measures. Also, of course, we need a LOT more testing capacity, PPE, etc.

P.S. And no, sadly this is NOT an April Fool’s Day joke. 🙁
