From the DCCC:
Freitas Bashes Unemployment Insurance, Paid Sick Leave
Nick Freitas thinks paid sick leave and unemployment insurance are too expensive and he really, really doesn’t care if you have accessible, affordable health care.
In the latest episode of his podcast, Nick Freitas bashed unemployment insurance and paid sick leave:
“A lot of times, we’ll have politicians come forward and want to mandate things like unemployment insurance or mandate paid sick leave. And they look at that as well, we’re just doing a good thing for a laborer who, you know, shouldn’t come into work anyways, while they’re sick, and especially during COVID, that seems to make sense. The problem is, is that they’re not actually taking into account the additional cost associated with that.”
An interesting take, given we are in the throes of a pandemic that has created an unprecedented public health and economic crisis. But we suspect his special interest backers chortle with glee every time Nick goes on the record defending repeal.
Reminder: the COVID-19 pandemic has left nearly 14 million Americans and over 267,000 Virginians unemployed and countless others without health insurance.
“So to recap, Nick Freitas wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act, he’s against unemployment insurance, and he’s against paid sick leave,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “If something is good for Central Virginians and their families, you better believe Nick Freitas is against it.”
