See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (9/24), in Virginia we’re at 143,492 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 10,769 hospitalizations and 3,113 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 902 (+0.6%) in the latest statistics, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 580 (+0.4%). This is the slowest daily rate of increase since the pandemic began. The number of TOTAL test results was 2,098,320 (up 32,727 from yesterday), which is above what we need for mitigation, according to researchers at Harvard that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression). As for hospitalizations, they went up 51 (+0.5%), which is a slightly faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 43 (+0.4%), and one of the slowest rates of growth so far during the pandemic. Deaths are reported +24, compared to +29 the previous day.
