Rashid Campaign Rolls Out Compassion For Working Families Plan
“The majority of essential workers are women, people of color, and immigrants. Our society would be unable to function without them,” Says Rashid
STAFFORD, VA – Today Qasim Rashid, Democratic nominee for Congress in Virginia’s First District rolls out the campaign’s Compassion for Working Families Plan. This plan centers the unique needs of working families and essential workers during this pandemic.
“Our teachers, eldercare givers, nurses, hospital workers, grocery store workers, meatpacking workers, and warehouse workers are getting us through this difficult time,” writes Rashid in a Medium post. “The majority of essential workers are women, people of color, and immigrants. Our society would be unable to function without them and we need elected leaders who understand the realities they face and are willing to protect their safety and economic security.” Read When working families win, we all win here.
Rashid’s plan focuses on raising the minimum wage, securing better healthcare, supporting gig workers like rideshare drivers, fighting for paid family leave and universal pre-K, and repealing so-called “right-to-work” laws. You can read the full plan here.
