Thursday (12/31) Virginia Data on COVID-19 Finds +5,239 Confirmed/Probable Cases (to 349,584), +131 Hospitalizations (to 18,041), +48 Deaths (to 5,032)

Highest one-day increase in cases since pandemic began; hospitalizations hit another record high

See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (12/31), in Virginia we’re at 349,584 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 18,041 hospitalizations and 5,032 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 5,239 (+1.5%) in the latest statistics, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 4,048 (+1.2%). As for hospitalizations, they went up 131 (+0.7%), which is the same rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 128 (+0.7%).  Deaths are reported +48, compared to +64 the previous day. The number of PCR-ONLY test results is currently at 4,255,991 (up 35,048 from yesterday).
