From the DLCC:
Campaign will hold the 508 (and counting) GOP lawmakers who undermined our democracy accountable
WASHINGTON — As the country turns the page on the Trump presidency, hundreds of Republican lawmakers have yet to face consequences for undermining our democracy and inciting violence in the dark days preceding President Biden’s inauguration. The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee is launching an accountability campaign aimed at Republican state lawmakers who sowed distrust in our elections and are complicit in inciting a deadly insurrection against the United States.
The GOP Hall of Shame: Sedition Edition lists the GOP insurrectionists who were present at the D.C. riots, lawmakers who signed onto letters or resolutions seeking to delay or overturn election results, and members who spread #StoptheSteal and other conspiracies about voter fraud online. Anyone with information about a Republican lawmaker who attended the insurrection or sought to overturn the presidential election results echoing Trump’s lies are encouraged to contact the DLCC’s tipline.
Alongside this database, the DLCC launched a digital ad campaign targeting Republican lawmakers in Michigan, Arizona, and Pennsylvania.
“Republican legislators across the country, whether they attended insurrectionist demonstrations or spread blatant lies, are guilty of all-out assault on our democracy, and we won’t let voters forget it,” said DLCC President Jessica Post. “Enemies of democracy have no business serving in our state legislatures, and if they had even an ounce of integrity they would resign immediately. There can be no unity without accountability.”
While one Republican state legislator resigned after being arrested for trespassing in the Capitol, few — if any — have owned up to their responsibility for spreading the misinformation that fueled the violence on January 6th. While many GOP elected officials have called for unity in the wake of the riots, the country cannot move forward unless Republicans take responsibility for their role in undermining our democracy.
