Tuesday (1/5) Virginia Data on COVID-19 Finds +4,337 Confirmed/Probable Cases (to 371,913), +139 Hospitalizations (to 18,526), +59 Deaths (to 5,191)

Hospitalizations hit new record high, as do 10-day cumulative new COVID-19 cases

See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (1/5), in Virginia we’re at 371,913 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 18,526 hospitalizations and 5,191 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 4,377 (+1.2%) in the latest statistics, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 3,771 (+1.0%). As for hospitalizations, they went up 139 (+0.8%), which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 77 (+0.4%).  Deaths are reported +59, compared to +8 the previous day. The number of PCR-ONLY test results is currently at 4,404,641 (up 21,164 from yesterday).
